Hello! I am also a descendant of Thomas Duggan born 1827 & Catherine Russell born 1841, through their daughter Johanna Maria Duggan, who was born in Australia. Any information would be greatly appreciated! I am going to Ireland in December and hope to follow this line up.
Thank you!
Rosemary

Hello Christine,
I am probably the Cody who Mai's grandson was referring to (or my brother John). Unfortunately, I too am struggling to fill in the missing pieces on the Cody's in Ireland. My great-great grandfather, John Cody was born in County Kilkenny in 1807. I know his parents were Michael Cody and Mary Fleming. Beyond that, we have been unable to define anything. We don't know who (if he had any) his siblings were, or where exactly in Kilkenny he was born. We've tried the various genealogical services in that area of Ireland with no success. I would definitely be interested in viewing your family tree to see if that could give me some clues. I have no record of any Duggans in my tree, but again, that is because of the sketchy details I have for the Cody's in Ireland. I have more information on the Croak (or Croke) side of the family. They lived in and around Drangan, and it is through them that nwe are related to the Power and Murphy families in Drangan.
This may turn out to be a situation where you help me out more than me being able to help you. Sorry. But thanks for reaching out!
Sincerely Yours,
-Bob Cody

Hi Bob,
My name is Christine Robbins née O'Brien & I'm loving researching my family history. I am descended from Thomas Duggan born 1827 & Catherine Russell born 1841 who married in the church in Drangan in 1862 & migrated from Newtown Drangan to Australia in 1863. Thomas Duggans parents were Henry Duggan & Margaret Dwyer.
I believe that Thomas Duggan's brother Johnny Duggan married Ellen Cody of Modeshill & their son Henry Duggan married Mary (May) Cody ..Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
I visited Drangan for several weeks in April 2011 in a Motorhome & met many really lovely people including your cousin Mai Murphy. Love the photo of the two of you. Please say hi to her from me.. I spent many hours with Mai listening to her stories as we looked at all her old photos.
I was also helped by Eamon Hall, Michael Moroney, Paddy Power of the long thatch & John Duggan & others.
I'm still progressively trying to work out the relationships between the families we are related to in Drangan.
I have a family tree on line which I'm happy to send you an invitation to if you wish.
I'm still struggling with finding the relationship between my Catherine Russell & Mai's Russell's. Do you have any knowledge of the relationships in the Russell family ?
Walter Duggan, Catherine's brother is also buried with her in Australia. her parents were Patrick Russell born 1811 & Judith or Judy Britt or Brett born 1816. At the time of Catherine s marriage they lived in Cloran Cloneen. Catherine's death record records her father as a carpenter.
I was also told by Mai's grandson that a Cody family member in the USA has researched the family history but I have no contact details for him.
Also a Father Maher wrote a book in the 1820's in USA & sent a copy home to the Duggan Family at Ballynennen.
Do you know any family history that may help me?
Congratulations on your great website.
Take Care,
Christine
